Dry Needling is a form of therapy adapted from Acupuncture.
Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine which stimulates acupuncture points in the skin to correct imbalances in the flow of Qi (energy) through channels known as meridians.1
Dry Needling uses Western medicine principles of anatomy and physiology to select painful spots known as Myofascial Trigger Points and can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal problems, headaches, back pain and inflammatory conditions.
The aim of Dry Needling is to increase circulation to the skin to decrease muscle spasm, in order to restore normal movement and function.
Dry Needling is an extremely effective way of releasing muscle spasm and reducing the pain associated with Myofascial points. However your physiotherapist will only use needles on you if you feel comfortable with this. There are many other effective treatment techniques available and each treatment is tailored to a patient’s individual needs.
